For independent users of manual wheel chairs: Max. gradient 1:7. Example: To overcome a height difference of 200 mm and a maximum gradient of 1:5 a ramp of 1000 mm long would be suitable (5 x 200 = 1000). A gradient of 1:12 is desirable where possible. Where level access is not achievable, ramps enable wheelchair users and people with pushchair's to overcome level changes.
