Overview

Lumi-Edge stair nosing is constructed in exactly the same way as the standard nosing (see Safe-Edge stair nosings) but with the addition of a photoluminescent resin grit surface. These surfaces are charged by normal illumination for example daylight or fluorescent light and emit a glow as soon as the usual light source is interrupted. This could be due to power failure, smoke obstruction or similar, thus providing excellent stair safety in emergency situations. During daylight hours Lumi-Edge still provides the normal contrasting coloured nosing.

Lumi-Edge is a pre-formed fibre glass profile constructed by combining polyester resins with fibre reinforcements. Two types of grit surfaces are available, type 'I' with its smaller grit size, offering a good slip property whilst providing a surface that is reasonably easy to clean. The type 'E' has a much heavier grit profile which is ideal for the rigours of the external environment.

Note: Lumi-Edge is especially designed to assist the partially sighted. Slip resisitant treads and stair nosings conform to the Disability Discrimination Act Part III known as DDA and in particular, the sections relevant to the partially sighted. Furthermore the Act requires that all stairs, accessed by members of the public, should have a contrasting coloured nosing fitted to all step edges and in addition such nosings should provide a slip resistant surface.

Benefits

Easy Installation
Quick and simple to install Lumi-Edge nosings can be either glued or screwed to an existing substrate or just simply glued using a structural adhesive.

Slip Resistant
As with the majority of products in the NonSlip range, the Lumi-Edge profiles have a compound of a special formula of grit which is added in the final layer of laminate.

Robust Fibreglass
Lumi-Edge is manufactured from tough hard wearing fibreglass which makes up the core of the material therefore offering a long term solution for step edges.

Tapered Edge
To ensure a safe, flush fit with the existing substrate and also to eliminate the possibility of a trip hazard, Lumi-Edge has been designed with a tapered back edge.

Legislation Compliant
The product in the 55x55mm profile meets the requirements of the current Building Regulations. Furthermore the requirements of the DDA are also met by Lumi-Edge stair nosings.

High Visibility Colours
As required by regulations the nosing profiles are designed to provide a contrasting colour to step edges. The luminous colour is grey/yellow. (click here to see Safe-Edge standard colours)

SafeEdge Riser Plates (SERPS)
SERPS are a useful addition to the SafeEdge range. Installing the risers mean that not only is the whole of the tread covered but the step riser itself is also completely covered offering a visually better appearance. (see SERPS for more details)

Sizes

Lumi-Edge stair nosing
Two sizes of EdgeGrip are available, the 70x30mm is the standard however to meet current Building Regulations (applicable to new buildings). The nosings are available on speedy deliveries in a maximum length of 3000mm and can be cut to size as required in house.
