Slip resisitant treads and stair nosing to help with the Disability Discrimination Act also know as the DDA.

Safe-Edge (Stair Nosing)
Safe Edge - Stair Nosing

Safe-Edge has been developed as a cost effective, long term solution to help with the requirements as laid down by the Disability Discrimination Act Part III (DDA) and in particular, the sections relevant to the partially sighted.

The Act, in essence, requires that all stairs, accessed by members of the public, should have a contrasting coloured nosing fitted to all step edges and in addition such nosings should provide a slip resistant surface.

What is Safe-Edge?
Safe-Edge is a pre-formed fibre glass profile constructed by combining polyester resins with fibre reinforcements. Two types of grit surfaces are available, Type 'I' with its smaller grit size, offers good slip resistancy whilst allowing a surface thats reasonably easy to clean. Type 'E', with a much heavier grit profile is ideal for the rigors of the external environment.

Shape and dimensions
Safe-Edge is available in two different sizes. The 70mm x 30mm profile would normally be used on existing structures whilst the 55mm x 55mm version should be used on new structures which are subject to the current UK Building Regulations as applicable from May 2004. With its patented feathered edge, Safe-Edge can be fitted to almost any step without creating a trip hazard. Even when fitted to landings and extra deep steps, its unique design provides the most secure solution.
