SafeStep Stair Covers and SafeStep Landing Covers

Overview

The SafeStep products are a 4mm thick profile which is designed to give a full covering of the whole stair or landing areas. The covers are pre-formed fibreglass profile constructed by combining polyester resins with fibre reinforcements. The top surface offers excellent slip properties due to the carbon grit which is chemically bonded to the top surface.

Once SafeStep is installed then stair safety is instantly improved therefore for stair treads and landing covers they are the obvious choice for dealing with potential slip hazard areas.

SafeStep products also have a contrasting coloured nosing, which means that it meets with current Building Regulation requirements and helps towards the Disability Discrimination Act.

It is important to note that to meet Building Regulations (for new build) the nosing must be 55x55mm in both the tread and the riser’, and must not be bigger or smaller, and should also be of a permanently contrasting material.

Benefits

Durability
SafeStep stair tread and landing covers are a high quality composite of glass woven matting impregnated as standard with an isophthalic polyester resin. This design means energy absorption and flexibility of the product, ensures it has a long life even in a very busy environment.

Slip Resistant
A compound of a special formula of grit is added in the final layer of laminate providing an excellent slip resistant and hard wearing surface. The carbon and silicone grit applied to the top surface not only provides an extremely slip resistant surface but also withstands the conditions of the busiest of environments.

Corrosion Resistant
SafeStep stair tread and landing covers are resistant to a wide range of liquids and chemicals, and therefore perfectly suited for use even in the harshest of environments.

Simple to install
SafeStep is very versatile thus allowing it to be applied to almost any surface including concrete, steel or wood. It is important to note that due to it being supplied as a finished product it can be walked on straight away which means disruption to staff or the public is kept to a minimum.

SafeEdge Riser Plates (SERPS)
SERPS are a useful addition to the SafeStep range. Installing the risers means that not only is the whole of the tread covered but the step riser itself is also completely covered offering a visually better appearance. (see SERPS for more details)

SureFoot flat sheet
The SureFoot product is a further useful addition to the SafeStep range, it is produced in 2.4m x 1.2m long sheets and is ideal for connecting walkways, ramps, gangways and factory floors as well as many more applications. (see SureFoot for more details)

Sizes

SafeStep stair tread covers are available as 55mm x 345mm deep with a maximum of 3000mm wide, yellow nosing (is) incorporated into the tread as well as 55mm down the riser. The product is nominally 4mm thick with the nosing set at an angle of 85°.

A cutting service is available to cut the stair tread covers to customers’ desired sizes for both the length and the depth.

SafeStep landing covers are available as 55mm x 1200mm deep with a maximum of 2400mm wide. Again, yellow nosing is incorporated into the tread and 55mm down the riser. As with the stair covers the product is nominally 4mm thick with the nosing set at 85 °.

A cutting service is also available to cut the landing covers to customers’ specification for both length and the depth.

Colours

SafeStep stair covers are available on speedy delivery in the following colours:

Other colours are available but are subject to a longer leadtime.

Fixing
The majority of external staircases are constructed from steel and the treads are formed using checker plate. Whilst this traditional construction method easily provides adequate structural strength the ‘checker-plate’ is notoriously slippery in wet and icy conditions. The versatility of SafetyStep allows it to be applied to almost any surface and for steel we recommend a mastic glue (which also prevents rocking on an uneven surface) and mechanical fixings (depending on the type of surface to be covered). Because the covers are supplied as a finished product they can be walked upon immediately, keeping disruption to a minimum.
