Lumi-Edge (Luminous Stair Nosing)

Lumi-Edge is constructed in exactly the same way as standard Safe-Edge profiles but with the addition of a photoluminescent resin grit surface. These surfaces are charged by normal illumination e.g. daylight or fluorescent light and omit a glow as soon as the natural light source is interrupted i.e. power failure, smoke obstruction or similar, providing excellent stair safety in emergency situations. During daylight hours Lumi-Edge still provides the normal contrasting coloured nosing.

 

Safe-Edge (Stair Nosing)

Safe-Edge has been developed as a cost effective, long term solution to help with the requirements as laid down by the Disability Discrimination Act Part III (DDA) and in particular, the sections relevant to the partially sighted. 

The Act, in essence, requires that all stairs, accessed by members of the public, should have a contrasting coloured nosing fitted to all step edges and in addition such nosings should provide a slip resistant surface.

• Can be glued and/or screwed to stone, tile or concrete steps
• Has a chamfered back edge to minimise any potential trip hazard
• Available with in aluminium or yellow finish with matching slip-resistant GRP inserts

• What is GRP?
  Glass – Reinforced Plastic (Fibreglass)
  
• What is the difference between the Type ‘I’ and Type ‘E’?
  Type ‘I’ is for internal use and has smaller grit surface
  Type ‘E’ is for External use and has a far heavier grit.
  
• What are the standard lengths?
  Lengths of Safe-Edge are produced at 3020mm. Price breaks are at
  750mm, 1000mm and 1500mm. We will cut to length free of charge.
  
• What colours are available?
  Yellow or white is available from stock. Safe-Edge is available in any BS or RAL colour but is subject to minimum order quantity/charge and in some cases on an extended lead-time.
  
• Which size suits my application?
  55 x 55mm nosing – is designed to help meet the requirements of currentbuilding regulations applicable for new building applications.
  
  70 x 30mm nosing – generally used for retrospective work. The 70mm
  at the top is intended where there is a larger area for foot contact.
